Wisdom Wednesdays-Proverbs 4:23

Well, it’s another Wednesday. Happy hump day to those who enjoy the Monday to Friday work week grind. I was trying to get inspired today since I am feeling a little sleepy this afternoon which leads to a definite dip in creativity as well. After coming up short on a few other ideas, I decided to dust off an older idea of mine-Wisdom Wednesdays. Basically, I just highlight a Proverb for thought.

Is it just me or is the book of Proverbs awesome in small bits? I have tried to read a chapter a day for a whole month suggestion but there is a lot in each chapter!! So I prefer to check out a little context but to mainly hone in on one verse and/or verses of a Proverb to focus on at a time. It’s a lot easier for me to meditate on one and pray about how God would have me live that specific Proverb out in my day to day life.

So, with all that being said, today I decided to pick Proverbs 4:23, “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” (ESV) Why that one? Well, as I mentioned the other day, I am reading the book Boundaries and several times throughout the book the authors mention this specific verse. Since it has been on my mind quite a few times in the past day, I decided it would be a great Proverb to highlight! (Real technical way to choose, I know!) 🙂

For such a short, simple sounding verse, it sure packs a large punch! The word picture that always comes to mind with this verse is a fresh water spring right as the water bubbles forth from the ground. I have heard (and hope to experience someday!) that it is the best tasting, most refreshing water a person could ever have. The longer the water is above ground, the more chances it has of getting polluted in some way or another.

As Christians, our source of Life is found in Christ. The closer we stay to our Source of Life, the less chance we have of becoming polluted with the world’s influences, Satan’s temptations, and our own sinful attitudes. Christ helps us filter through everything when we are abiding in Him. Let us pray that Christ will help us stay close to Him today and fight against the pollution that would hamper our relationship with Him and dim our ability to share Him with the world around us.

Thank you for stopping by today! Let me know in the comments what Proverbs you would like to see me highlight in the future. 🙂
